HHHJapan Activities and Project History
HHHJapan works to realize multicultural coexistence through language education, international exchange, environmental conservation, and community-based activities. Based in Nagoya, we have connected local communities in Japan with overseas communities, creating opportunities for people to learn from one another and support one another.
This page introduces the main activities and project history that HHHJapan has developed over the years.
Multicultural Coexistence and Japanese Language Education
HHHJapan provides Japanese language learning support for foreign residents in Japan, international students, working adults, short-term visitors, and people overseas who wish to study Japanese.
Our Japanese language education activities are not only about teaching the language. We value helping learners live with confidence in Japanese society, whether in daily life, work, school, or local communities. At the same time, teaching Japanese also gives Japanese people opportunities to encounter different cultures and values, helping to expand multicultural coexistence within local communities.
Today, we make use of our network of volunteer tutors and professional teachers to provide both face-to-face and online Japanese learning support that matches each learner’s goals, location, and learning environment.
English Conversation and International Exchange
HHHJapan has also worked on English conversation and international exchange activities as opportunities for Japanese people to broaden their international perspective and encounter different cultures and values.
Our English conversation activities are not only about learning English. Through communication with foreign teachers and participants, we aim to deepen international understanding and create natural opportunities for international exchange within local communities.
Agroforestry and Environmental Conservation
In our overseas activities, HHHJapan worked mainly in Leyte, the Philippines, in areas affected by Typhoon Haiyan. We supported agroforestry projects for coconut farmers with the aim of rebuilding local livelihoods and contributing to environmental conservation.
Agroforestry is an approach that combines tree planting and agriculture to support both environmental conservation and the improvement of farmers’ livelihoods. In cooperation with local organizations, farmers, and related institutions, HHHJapan worked to promote mixed organic farming systems that could contribute to biodiversity restoration, income improvement, and climate change resilience.
These projects were carried out over multiple years with support from the Environmental Restoration and Conservation Agency of Japan’s Japan Fund for Global Environment, the Toyota Environmental Activities Grant Program, and the Mitsui & Co. Environment Fund. Rather than providing temporary assistance, we have valued creating systems that local communities can continue on their own initiative.
International Understanding and Environmental Seminars
In addition to language education, HHHJapan has also organized lectures and seminars on international understanding and environmental issues.
Through learning about overseas cultures, environmental challenges, and local community issues, participants have opportunities to deepen their understanding of different cultures and develop greater interest in international cooperation. These activities also help local communities think about global issues from a local perspective.
Community-Based International Cooperation from a Local Perspective
HHHJapan believes that many of the challenges faced by overseas communities and local communities in Japan share common themes. Health, medical care, welfare, environmental conservation, child development, and community building are important issues that go beyond national and regional borders.
For this reason, we value community-based international cooperation from a local perspective. We aim to connect our overseas experience with local activities in Japan, and to link multicultural coexistence in Japan with broader international cooperation.
