2023 Japanese Education Internship Report
Learning Japanese Class Management, Volunteer Lessons and Multicultural Coexistence
In 2023, Helping Hands and Hearts Japan carried out a Japanese education internship focused on Japanese language class management, learning support for foreign students, Japanese volunteer lessons, classroom marketing and multicultural coexistence.
Through this internship, the intern learned about Japanese language education not only as classroom teaching, but also as a practical community support activity. The program included volunteer Japanese lessons for a foreign student, information creation for families, campaign planning and support for language school operations.
The 2023 Japanese education internship was a practical learning program in which the intern learned about Japanese language education, classroom management, learning support for foreign students and multicultural coexistence.
The activity was connected to HHAHJ’s Japanese language classes and community-based Japanese learning support. The intern participated in Japanese volunteer lessons, created information for families and schools, supported classroom-related activities and learned how Japanese education can support children and families with foreign backgrounds.
The intern learned Japanese education through direct involvement in real activities. Rather than only studying teaching methods, the intern experienced how Japanese language support is connected to students’ daily lives, school learning, family concerns and community support.
Through volunteer lessons and classroom-related tasks, the intern learned how important it is to listen to learners, understand their background and prepare communication that is easy for families and students to understand.
Japanese language education can help foreign students and families participate more confidently in school and daily life in Japan. Through this internship, the intern learned that Japanese education is not only about teaching grammar or vocabulary, but also about supporting communication, confidence and belonging.
The 2023 internship included practical activities related to Japanese language learning support, classroom operation, campaign creation and information sharing.
The intern supported a foreign student through volunteer Japanese lessons. The lessons included reading, explanation of difficult words, everyday communication and conversation to build trust.

One important part of the internship was a volunteer Japanese lesson for a Chinese junior high school student. The intern experienced how a volunteer teacher can support a learner while building trust through conversation and careful explanation.
At first, the student was shy, but through regular conversation about hobbies, school, pets and daily life, communication gradually became easier. The intern learned that language support is also relationship-building support.
Using school textbooks and simple Japanese explanations, the lesson focused on helping the student understand difficult kanji, readings, meanings and everyday expressions.
The intern learned by moving from understanding the needs of Japanese learners to creating materials, supporting lessons and communicating the value of Japanese education.
The intern learned about the needs of foreign students and families who need Japanese support for school and daily life.
The intern created campaign information and school-related guidance so that families could understand the support available.
The intern experienced Japanese volunteer lessons and learned how to explain Japanese in ways that are easier for learners to understand.

During the 2023 internship, the intern created an external page to organize and communicate what she had learned through Japanese volunteer lessons, classroom operations, outreach activities and other practical NPO work.
